Message from the President of the National Council of Women Australia
Governor’s Reception 120th Anniversary Celebration of NCW Queensland

It is with immense pride and admiration that I acknowledge the remarkable milestone reached by the National Council of Women of Queensland. In 2025, NCWQ commemorates 120 years of tireless advocacy, community service, and leadership since its first official meeting held on 15 June 1905.

To honour this extraordinary occasion, the National Council of Women of Queensland hosted a special reception on 19 June 2025, graciously held at Government House and hosted by the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, and Professor Graeme Nimmo RFD. The evening was a fitting tribute to more than a century of unwavering commitment to advancing the rights and status of women throughout Queensland.

I was deeply honoured to attend this historic celebration, surrounded by current and former members of NCWQ, as well as the proud family members of those who have contributed to the organisation’s rich legacy. The atmosphere was one of deep reflection, gratitude, and inspiration.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to NCWQ President Sandy Smith for her outstanding leadership and vision, and to the entire NCWQ membership for bringing such a meaningful celebration to life. Their efforts not only honoured the past but also reaffirmed the relevance and importance of our work into the future.

For 120 years, NCWQ has stood as a powerful voice for women and girls across the Sunshine State, amplifying their concerns, informing public policy, and creating tangible change. The legacy of those who came before us continues to shape our purpose, and I am confident that, guided by the same determination and values, NCWQ will continue to lead with impact for generations to come.

With admiration and respect,
Fiona Dorman
President, National Council of Women Australia
